Day 55 of 180 Days of Data Viz #jfdi

I’m doing some form of data visualization learning for 180 days because I need to #JFDI.  See post explaining how and why I’m doing this.

Knight Journalism Course for the Americas:  Data Visualization and Infographics with D3!

Code Learning:

Scott Murray From Bar Chart to Scatterplot & Formatting + Ticks

Three Takeways:

  • Knowing how to work and experiment with changes on scales and axis and using min and max functions will be key in creating new visuals as well as shifting datasets for different visuals
  • The culprit for some things not working with D3 isn’t D3 at all, but CSS issues
  • .ticks() method takes in a suggested # of ticks which D3 will use to scale in the axis in a way that makes sense.  The .tickformat() method will take in anonymous functions for various formats
    • eg .ticksFormat(functoin(d { return d + “%”; });
